Countdown Week

I’m now in my last full week at home in Surrey, British Columbia and I’m hoping the weather will stay mild for the ENTIRE trip south.  I definitely don’t want a repeat of last year.  I left a couple of days late because of a wicked snow and ice storm in Seattle.  The weather still wasn’t good when I left and I got caught in lots and lots of slow moving traffic through Seattle/Tacoma and ended up staying in a hotel right off the highway and drove much longer than anticipated.  I drove in the dark – something I never like to do. Was grateful to be off the road.

In Grant’s Pass, Oregon I was just heading out when I discovered an oil leak and decided not to go over the two mountain passes, Siskyou’s and Mount Shasta, with a potential problem so I drove out to the coast.  The campground I stayed in (on the coast) called the local Ford dealer and made an appointment for Monday.  Discovered that it wasn’t an oil leak but a diesel fuel leak.  By 4 in the afternoon it was repaired and rather than get back on the road at 4 I went back to the campground for 1 last night.  Needless to say I was still apprehensive about driving but made it back to Highway 5 south and the rest of the trip was okay.

On the trip back last year I ended up in a major blizzard and Highway 5 north was closed so I went back out to the coast road having to drive over a couple of snowy mountain passes.  Like I said – I don’t want a repeat of last year.  I’m leaving a week earlier and returning a week later.  NICE WEATHER PLEASE……if anyone is listening.

Today I’ll be emptying out the back seat of my truck of everything not going south with me.  I have a lot of books that I’ll put back into my storage locker here in the complex.

I’m in the process of printing out 15 or 20 of each of my mini reads.  I won’t put them together until I get to Yuma but they are nice to have just in case I run out. The cost of trimming them in Yuma is a fraction of the cost to trimming them here.  I’ll also wait until I’m south of the border to purchase more ink.  Again at least $10.00 cheaper even at Costco.

Need to do last minute things – like pay all my bills, get a haircut from my favorite beautician, have one last lunch with friends, etc…….and then I’m off.  Not looking forward to the drive but definitely looking forward to meeting up with my friends in Yuma.

I wanted to learn about setting up a website with WordPress and a friend send me an e-book on the subject that made it seem easy until I read it…..I have absolutely no idea how to do it.  I didn’t even understand any of the terms they used…..I’m stuck.  I’m going to have to find a 10 year old – they know it all.

That’s it for now, folks.  I’ll update as I move along.   Joei
