3rd Day is a Charm

<a href=”http://joeicarlton.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/IMG_0063.jpg”>  This will be my third day at the Surrey International Writers Conference and up until very late in the afternoon yesterday I had sold only bookmarks.  I was okay with that because the first day of bookmark sales paid for the table for the three days – money is money after all.  The last sale at my table was for 2 of my little mini reads and one bookmark.  Good – I was happy with that.

At the author’s signing in the evening I wasn’t really expecting any sales but, of course, we can always hope.  I sold one bookmark as soon as I sat down and my last sale of the day was to a playwright.  Earlier in the evening he was talking to my tablemate – Bruce Dowbiggen – a journalist of Calgary and after Bruce left and I was packing up he used a corner of my table to write something – looked my way and commented about how many books I’ve written.  I told him they were based on my travels and he asked if I had anything about England.  He purchased Everyone’s Dream Everyone’s Nightmare and I asked him for feedback because I felt that Everyone’s Dream would be a terrific mini series.  He said “yes” he would give me feedback and both he and his wife were going to read it.  EVERYONE OUT THERE……..keep your fingers crossed.  This would be a REAL turning point in my career.

Everything else seems to be coming up roses as well.  I received a letter from the Port Moody Library, where I lectured last Wednesday.  They were thrilled with my presentation and received many glowing responses from the audience and it was the hope that I would be interested in returning for another presentation – OF COURSE – I would be interested.

Also on Friday I received a telephone call from the Newton Library who is interested in putting a display of my bookmarks in their window.  I have an appointment on Monday at 10:00.  Those bookmarks would look so nice tucked away inside a few of MY books – don’t you think??????

Anyway it is 5:57 A.M. and my alarm is about to go off and that’ll start my day.  In the meantime it has been a wonderful week and I KNOW it will continue that way.  Any day soon I’ll be receiving the 10 copies of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book – O Canada – and I’ve arranged for a mini signing of that book in the Strawberry Hill Chapters early in November.  Over the next couple of weeks I need more bookmarks AND I want to upgrade by computer skills by trying to put together a one (or 2) page website to sell my bookmarks.  Life is good – AND I NEED TO GET TO WORK.   Have a great day everyone.   Joei
