Surrey International Writers’ Conference

I always look forward to the 3rd week of October and this year it’s from the 21st to the 23rd of October for the Surrey International Writer’s Conference.  Even though I’ve been there several times now I always combine it with Thursday evening at Chapter’s Book Store in Strawberry Hill, Surrey for an evening listening to several authors read their work.  I try to sit front row center.  I’m also the first one with their hand up to ask a question or two.

Diana Gabaldon, one of my VERY favorite authors, is always on hand.  I have attended a couple of her classes at the SIWC.  I have listened to her reading at Chapters every year and was absolutely stunned recently when I looked at her website.  I really thought that once you make it that BIG you can sit back, do a couple of events a year and watch as the money rolls in……well….like I said…..I was stunned when I looked at her schedule.  Except for August (for family traveling) and December (no explanation needed there) Diana is out promoting EVERY month other then the two mentioned.

I didn’t think I could admire an author more than I already do but looking at her event’s calendar she is now head and shoulders above that…….

It also made me realize that I must do more to promote myself and my 10 adventure travel books.

Thank you Diana – all this old lady needed was more work.   Looking forward to seeing my old friends and making some new ones at the Surrey International Writers’ Conference.  I have a booth with all my books AND a healthy supply of my new bookmarks.  I’ll be there all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday and a table on Saturday night with the rest of the authors that is open to the public.
