October News and Views

October definitely has shaped up to be a winner.  Although the Surrey Arts Council craft show turned out to be a bust I did make my booth money back and for this neighborhood that’s all I can really expect.  I won’t be doing many events in Newton.

I did hear again from Chicken Soup for the Soul and I should be receiving the 10 copies of O Canada within the next 2 weeks.  I  can also purchase case lots (20 in a case) at half price but I’ll pass that.    I am so excited and I think I have finally realized WHY it is so exciting.  Normally I write the book, get it edited,  contact my computer guru Brion from www.bookcreatives.com for the cover.  Then I print, bind and flog.  It’s non stop work, work, work.  Chicken Soup for the Soul has created the excitement and once it comes out it’ll be work but fun, fun, fun.  I’ll be contacting the newspapers and hope they do a story about me – again.  I’m not only looking forward to reading my story in a “real” book but I’m hoping to hear from lots of people who see my name and website amongst the contributors.  Like I said – fun, fun, fun.

Yesterday I did my lecture at the Port Moody Library and thank goodness my friend Edith was with me – she’s familiar with Port Moody and without her I’d still be trying to find the library – AND I NEVER WOULD HAVE FOUND MY WAY HOME in the dark.   Yes – if I’m going to be driving out into virgin territory I’ll get a GPS.  I promise.  There were 18 people in the audience and I’m told that was good for Port Moody – the last author had 2 in the audience so I was pleased.  I’m told I did well and since the audience laughed when they were supposed to and asked questions at the end I can only be happy with it. And I did sell a few books.

I was told I will be invited back to do a presentation on Travel Writing and since that was the second request I’ve had this week for traveling writing I might start putting classes together sooner rather than later.  I also have to update my classes on memoir writing, writing with humor, publishing and marketing and RVing as a Solo which is the second class I do at the RV Owners Lifestyle Conference in Kelowna every June.  I have a feeling a few more doors are opening for me – and I want to be prepared.

Next week is the Surrey International Writers’ Conference and I’m really looking forward to that.  I’m also working to finish my latest Mini Read (as yet unnamed) on Greece because I’ve got my next project all mapped out AND I have a title for it.  All is well – when I’m busy – All is definitely well.
