Home

Well, my 3 days on the road are over and, at least for the moment, I’m glad to be home.

I left Smithers on Saturday morning and after being in the rain for most of the last 28 days I was glad to see the sun even though it felt like God was sticking his tongue  out at me.  I could have used a little sun while I was actually camping there instead of on my way out.  It was a relatively easy drive but I really don’t like Highway 16.  It is called “The Highway of Tears” because of all the women that have disappeared on that road, most of them found murdered in the various small towns along that road, while some have never been found.  On my way in there was a billboard of a beautiful, young woman that has disappeared from Vanderhoof over a month ago.  I didn’t see anything about her on the way out.  I hope she was found safe.

I arrived in Prince George around 2:00 and could have driven on but I didn’t want to.  I stayed in the Wal Mart lot with Michael’s Craft Store right across the street. It was fantastic.  Didn’t find any beading stuff at Michael’s but found the mother-lode at Wal Mart.  I think I spent about $40.00 but worth every penny.  I was almost out of “findings” for my book marks because rain had kept me inside for way too long.

I think I drove about 250 miles each day so my second day’s drive took me to Gold Trail campground in Clinton…..one of my favorites.  Camping is cheap ($17.00) and Michael (owner/manager/jokester/chef extraordinaire) is a fantastic cook.  They have an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner – I have the ribs every time – and they are done to perfection.  I usually try a little of all the fixin’s and I’m stuffed at the end. (Since they don’t serve beer or wine you can bring your own – finished what was left in my last bottle)  I ended up talking to 4 people who were just passing through and came for the BBQ.   There were a couple of ladies from Holland that I spoke to after dinner.  For those of you who read my book Everyone’s Dream Everyone’s Nightmare you KNOW that I love the Dutch people.  I will be forever grateful for the Dutch couple who helped me in Germany.

My last day on the road was a fairly easy (but long) one.  The road down Highway 1 is long and twisty and I arrived home around 2:00 after doing a bit of grocery shopping so I would have something easy for dinner.  I spent a couple of hours unloading my camper before parking my camper in the back lot.  Still have some work to do today to unload but I was just too tired yesterday.

Have been up since around 4:00 A.M. putting stuff away starting at 5:00 A.M. and will head back to bed soon……still tired.  If it stays warm I’ll be at the pool this afternoon.  Looking forward to seeing my friends although I did run into a few right here in the building.

…….hummmmmmmmmmmmmm…….where did I see that information about a camping rally…………….     Joei
