Smithers

Thought I would update my website now that I’m safely tucked away at my campground in Smithers, British Columbia even though I still haven’t disconnected my truck from my camper.  Sometime today but more likely tomorrow I’ll move my camper over a few inches so I’m closer to water and electric and then I’ll remove my truck out from under.

Anyway, it’s nice and quiet and I’ve been sleeping like a log and thoroughly enjoying the experience of doing little to nothing and having some fresh thoughts on the subject:  About a month ago I had a call from my friend Kerri.  She had one business call to make and then was heading downtown and would I like to go along.  An opportunity to be with a good friend and having her drive someplace I wouldn’t go myself always gets a “yes” from me.  She picked me up – we drove to Richmond for the business call – stopped for a hotdog lunch at Costco and we were off to Granville Island – in the rain but that’s not important.

She said “when I need to renew my soul I go to Granville Island” and as soon as we walked in I knew exactly what she meant.  There were craft vendors and we spoke to a few but they all greeted us and I loved looking at their handicrafts.  The food spelled delicious and we had a coffee to carry around.  The vegetables were colorful and everything was stacked high.  It was warm and inviting and delicious.

I’ve now been in Smithers three full days and I’m realizing that this is where I renew my soul.  I take this same spot every summer because when I open my back door I have a view of the Hudson’s Bay Glacier and it is awesome.  The campground is quiet during the day and within the next day or so I’ll get back to work.  I have my Mini Read of Greece to finish and my writing friend, David, gave me a fantastic idea for my next Mini and I’m ready to pour my heart onto paper.

I do have a radio with me but there is no television so I’ll get lots of reading, writing and movie watching done….which will help me get over my addiction to television.

I also have been working on my beadwork.  I love the look and feel of the beads and, of course, I love the creativity.

So this is day three of my soul renewal – check back with me on day thirty-three and it might be a different story but in the meantime – greetings from Smithers.   Joei

Sounds great. Glad that you are able to get caught up on your sleep and still getting things done.
